Congratulations on your brand new, box-fresh, snuggly eve mattress.
Whether you’ve got the original, premium, hybrid or light, each mattress is unboxed in the same way and needs some TLC, so here are some handy tips to help get things off to the perfect start.
First things first, how the dickens are you going to get that rather large new mattress of yours out of its box? Don’t worry; it’s actually pretty easy. So have a stretch, queue up your favourite 80’s montage music, and we’ll get started…
First, lay the box down sideways on top of your bed. Try and hold off from climbing on and pulling the covers over you just yet - there’s still a few more steps to go.
Next, open out both ends of the box and push the mattress through on to your bed. We recommend keeping the box in case you want to build a Wendy House later.
Now, carefully remove the outer plastic film. It’s probably time to pop the kettle on.
Time for the fun bit: unrolling your new mattress. It’s pretty impressive watching how quickly it grows, right?
Once it’s opened all the way out, flip it like a gymnast on Pancake Day. The side with the eve label is the side you’ll sleep on. This bit’s in bold because sometimes people forget which way up the mattress should be. Anyways. Now just position the mattress centrally, making sure that little eve label is at the foot of the bed.
You’re nearly at the finish line. All that’s left to do is tear that protective plastic covering off and you’re there. Maybe give it 4 - 6 hours to grow lovely and plump before you hop in. In the meantime, that kettle’s probably boiled by now. Tea?
And that’s it. You’re done. Let us be the first to wish you both many wonderful sleeps together, followed by happy, healthy days.
Now that you’re all set up, we’ve popped some mattress questions that sometimes eve newbies ask us below.
If you’re not quite ready to unbox your mattress, you can keep it in there for up to one month. However, the longer it’s kept in the box, the longer it takes to expand to its marvellous shape.
Using your eve mattress on the floor won’t change how comfy or supportive it is, but even a mattress needs to breathe from time to time. So, make sure you pop it up on its side every now to let it air.
It takes about 4 - 6 hours for the mattress to grow to its full, cloud-like height, so you’ll be snoozing away peacefully in no time at all.
We like to compare it to a brand-new pair of shoes. Sometimes your mattress needs a small amount of time to adapt and soften to your body. We recommend trying your mattress for at least 100 nights.
Because we deliver your mattress box fresh, it may have a faint smell on the day of delivery. Don’t fret, this is all perfectly normal and harmless. It should fade and disappear completely after a few days.
It does indeed, but different bed bases make your mattress feel slightly different. Take wooden slats or platform beds, for example. These offer more support, while box springs tend to create a ‘softer’ feel. If you are using a slatted base, make sure the gaps don’t exceed 7 cm and the slats are evenly spaced and rigid.
To keep things squeaky clean, you can unzip the white part of the top cover and pop it in the wash at 40⁰C. For the side panels, we recommend spot cleaning. Sometimes dust can settle near the piping. So, once in a while, dig out your vacuum’s upholstery attachment (have a dig around the cupboard - it’ll be in there somewhere) and hoover the top of the mattress.
Because memory foam is pretty special, it can’t be washed, sponged, dry cleaned or hung out on the washing line. Getting your mattress wet can cause irreversible damage and sadly makes your warranty null and void. Sorry about that.
Our mattresses only work at their best one side up, so you don’t have to flip it over. However, they do like it if you rotate them lengthways every 30 days for the first year - then twice a year after that. This keeps it in tip-top shape and helps its lifespan. Gently does it, though. Avoid dragging your mattress and take care when rotating.
If you like that super toasty feeling, you can use an electric blanket with your eve mattress - but use one that goes over a sheet, rather than under. And remember to make sure your electric blanket is less than 10 years old and in good working condition. We’re very safety conscious around here.
A hot water bottle can be used alongside our mattress, but make sure it’s not a leaky one. If the foam comes into contact with water, it may cause irreversible damage.
Protectors are great for keeping your brand-new mattress spick and span. But don’t worry if you don’t have one yet - we have just the ticket. The eve mattress protector is not only water-resistant but keeps dust mites at bay. It’s also super soft and delightfully thin - so you’ll barely notice it’s there.
Every eve mattress is thoughtfully-designed to provide you with years of loyal service. We even give you a 10-year warranty to prove it. It’s provided free of charge and in addition to the rights given to you by the law. Full details can be found on our warranty page and in our terms and conditions.
