There’s something super magical about autumn, don’t you think? The air turns crisp, coffee tastes better in your favourite mug (with some pumpkin spice syrup of course!), and suddenly every walk feels like a scene from a cosy movie. Whether you’re all for pumpkin patches and bonfires or you prefer scenic drives and slow mornings under a fluffy blanket, fall is the season for simple joys and golden moments.
So, grab your comfiest jumper, strap yourself in and get ready to tick off some seriously fun seasonal goals. We’ve created the ultimate autumn bucket list - because life’s too short not to jump in a pile of leaves.
1. a rainy reading afternoon
Let’s be honest, it’s always the perfect season for some reading but when the rain comes out it’s extra special. Autumn is the ideal time to get wrapped up in your favourite blanket and get cosy on your armchair with a book in hand. Despite the dull weather, reading has a whole host of benefits and we need all the help we can get to avoid being hit with the dreaded SAD (seasonal affective disorder). What better excuse to get lost in a new book?
If you’re on the look out for a new book to read, take a look at our autumn reading list here.
2. watch a horror film
Not only does Autumn bring falling leaves, it’s also spooky season and that means any excuse to get your adrenaline pumping with a spine-chilling horror film. Whether you’re a fear cushioneer or a scream proof superstar, we’ve got you covered with our countdown to Halloween movies to give you some inspiration.
3. take an autumnal walk through the leaves
There’s nothing quite like that satisfying crunch under your boots as you stroll through a trail of golden, red, and orange leaves. The crisp air on your cheeks, the earthy scent of autumn all around, and the gentle rustle of leaves with every step. When we’re lucky enough to get fresh, crisp mornings it’s a must to make sure we make the most of them.
4. decorate your home in Autumnal shades
Why wait until Christmas to decorate your home with some seasonal spirit? Autumn and Halloween bring the perfect excuse (not that we need one!) to get creative with your home. Whether you prefer to keep things neutral or go all out with bright orange, you can add plenty of fall charm with some easy additions. A garland on your fireplace, a wreath on your front door, pumpkin ornaments wherever you feel or switch your wall art up with some seasonal prints.
5. pumpkin picking & carving
This one is fun for all the family, get your wellies and waterproofs on and your good to go! There’s usually lots of local pumpkin patches for you to go and pick your perfect pumpkin and they come in all shapes and sizes. If you’re not a fan of getting your hands dirty, you can always buy them pre picked and ready for you to take home. Next up, find the most creative design and get carving – you could always add some health competition with a prize for the best one!
6. have a car picnic
Whoever said picnics are only for Spring/Summer is telling fibs, rain or shine this is the perfect time of year to get your favourite snacks together, drive somewhere with a pretty view and enjoy a car picnic. If you really want to push the boat out you could turn your boot into your very own picnic spot with a super soft blanket.
7. go to a bonfire
The only thing that’s better than a crisp autumn morning? A cold evening with a bonfire to gather around! Toast marshmallows, sip something warm (our tipple of choice is always a hot chocolate!), and watch fireworks light up the night sky. It’s basically autumn’s way of giving you a big hug.
8. have a conker contest
This might sound a little old fashioned but sometimes that’s the best kind of fun. This activity would go hand in hand with your Autumn walk as you can find your weapon of choice whilst you’re out there. If you’re not quite sure how to have a conker contest, then let us break it down for you.
- Step 1 – pick a conker of your choice and tie string around it so that you can use the string to swing it.
- Step 2 – face your opponent (around a metre apart) and take it in turns to hit each other’s conker.
- Step 3 – whoever smashes the others conker first, wins!
9. stargaze at night
There really is nothing more magical that looking up at the stars on a super clear night. Take a drive up to your favourite spot and spend your time trying to spot different constellations, planets, and even the Milky Way. This is the ultimate way to switch off from reality for a little while and spend time away from your screens.
10. bake some bread
Last but certainly not least, wouldn’t we all love to be the next Mary Berry? With bake off back on our screens, there’s no better time to practise your baking skills and we’re dreaming of a freshly baked loaf of bread to go with a steamy bowl of soup. Dreamy.
