Want to join our well-read club? We don’t blame you. It’s been a hot minute since we sat down to talk all things books and we thought what better time than when Summer is soon to wave us goodbye (we’re not crying promise!).
Whilst the Summer months often bring an excuse to get out in the great outdoors and enjoy the sunshine (unless your unlucky enough live in the north!), there’s no better feeling than hibernating indoors during the cold and rainy season and cosying up by a fire or on your eve mattress, in your snuggest pj’s with a book in hand.
If you didn’t already know, reading before bed or anytime for that matter has numerous benefits. Take a peek here if you want to know more. Some nifty research (1) also found that reading for at least 30 minutes per day is proven to increase your health and well-being (which is seriously needed during those darker months!).
With spooky season in full swing, whether you’re into ghostly hauntings, magical mysteries or psychological thrillers that make you check under your bed twice, this list has got something for everyone.
1. The Intruder – Frieda McFadden
Our favourite thriller author (who never disappoints) is back with a book that will have you on the edge of your seat. Casey’s cosy cabin retreat is interrupted by not only a hurricane but a young girl lurking outside her window, covered in blood. The girl has a dark secret. One she’ll kill to keep. And if Casey gets too close to the truth, she may not live to see the morning.
2. The Woman In Cabin 10 – Ruth Ware
Not only is this a book to add to your to read list, but also your watch list too as it’s recently been adapted into a film starring Keira Knightley. A journalist witnesses a woman being overboard in the middle of the night, but the ship carries on as though nothing has happened.
3. Hidden Pictures – Jason Rekulak
Mallory Quinn is fresh out of rehab when she takes a job as a babysitter for Ted and Caroline Maxwell. Teddy, a sweet, shy boy who is never without his sketchbook and pencil. His drawings are nothing out of the ordinary for a young boy, trees, rabbits, balloons. Until one day, he draws something different, a man in a forest, dragging a woman's lifeless body. Warning, you might want to make sure you’ve got company whilst reading this.
4. Gone Before Goodbye – Reese Witherspoon & Harlan Coben
This sounds like a dreamy collaboration. Just when Maggie’s life seems irretrievably broken, a mysterious lifeline to work for an anonymous client appears. But here’s the catch, the patient vanishes while under her care and she finds herself in the middle of a conspiracy that could risk her being erased altogether.
5. The Book of Autumn – Molly O’Sullivan
When freaky happenings begin at school (including a dead girl), Cella and Max must team up to solve the mystery. The book of Autumn isn’t your ordinary haunted dorm tale, they must learn what it means to trust each other whilst saving their magical lives as they know it.
final thoughts
As summer gives way to Autumn, these books are some of our favourite up and coming titles for bookworms everywhere. Picture yourself curled up on the sofa (or in bed) with a snuggly duvet to keep you warm, a steamy mug of hot chocolate in hand, and the golden leaves tumbling in the wind outside.
Sounds like bliss to us! We hope you enjoy our Autumnal reads round up.
Until next time, eve sleep.
