If you've been feeling more stressed out this year than last, you're not alone. Find out how our be more sloth video could be just want you need to achieve a consistently better sleep in 2024.
be more sloth

eve has been looking at ways we can be more sloth-like as 2024 fast approaches and so many of us have been busy planning our new year’s resolutions for the occasion. What we’ve done is turn our attention to relaxation and sleep. Being able to let go of the day’s woes and properly relax can really help to reduce anxiety and insomnia.

And so, we introduce our specially created relaxation video to help you relax and sleep better throughout 2024 and beyond.

This 20-hour long mindfulness video features no wellness guru, dialogue or soundtrack. Instead, we showcase the calming effects a simple combination of a sleeping sloth and sound of the rainforest can help you achieve.

why we created our be more sloth relaxation video

The concept of our sloth relaxation video came about after a study revealed that 45% of Brits feel more stressed and anxious this year than last year. This is, of course, due to the continued cost of living crisis we are all currently experiencing.

So why not take some inspiration from our brand champion the sloth?

Sloths are fascinating creatures that sleep up to 20 hours a day – a number that is more than double our target of 7-9 hours shut eye per night (1). Learn more weird and wonderful facts about sloths in our international sloth day blog post.

A survey of 2,000 Brits has revealed we’re a nation in a state of sleep crisis. Our research has shown that 63% of Brits wake up feeling exhausted, and 58% of us wake up feeling generally stressed about the day ahead.

In a bid to relieve some of the stress and strain daily life throws at us, we decided to create the world’s “slowest” relaxation and sleep video. So, for 20 hours, throughout the night while you’re sleeping, or simply for as long as your sleep timer lasts, you can find comfort in the footage of a sloth as it peacefully slumbers and relaxes in the leafy canopy of the Costa Rican rainforest.

more interesting stats from our study

This study also revealed that more than a third of Brits taking part have regularly experienced nightmares about work.

From those we surveyed, their work nightmares were linked to money issues (28%), health problems (24%), and work disasters (23%). A small number of us also worry about showing up naked to work (6%) or having sex with their boss (2%) - yes, this does actually happen to some of us out there!

More than half of the participants admitted they were unable to switch off from work over Christmas. And almost 40% of us worked during the Christmas break, while an extra 10% of Brits admitted to taking a work call on Christmas Day itself.

43% of participants confessed that they struggle to sleep due to stress and anxiety. And 34% of those involved in the study have experienced nightmares about upcoming work projects.

Unsurprisingly, 46% of the 2000 participants feel daunted by the prospect of going back to work in January. And – we’ve all been there – 44% feel that they need another holiday to get over their Christmas break.

10 things Brits have nightmares about

Our survey even dived into the topic of nightmares. Here are the top 10 things people in the UK are losing sleep over:

  1. Money issues (28%)
  2. Health problems (24%)
  3. Work disasters (23%)
  4. Relationship failures (20%)
  5. Being sacked (14%)
  6. Family (13%)
  7. Being late for work (12%)
  8. Workloads / upcoming projects (12%)
  9. Partners (9%)
  10. Boss (8%)

If these statistics are sounding all too familiar, our be more sloth video could be just what you need to lay the worries of the day to rest. And hopefully that’ll help you experience a better quality sleep overall too.

why a new mattress could be in order

If you have tried countless mindfulness exercises and are still struggling to sleep, your mattress could be causing the issue.

If you’re waking up stressed, are you also waking up sore? Or maybe allergies are causing your sleep disruptions to get worse? Buying a new mattress might just be the quick fix you’re hoping for.

Here are some quick questions to ask yourself before deciding whether a new mattress is a necessary purchase:

How long have you had your existing mattress? If you’ve had it more than eight years, you’re more than likely overdue a replacement mattress.

Are there any visible signs of wear and tear? Visible sagging, tears, holes, and stains are all signs that it’s time to replace your mattress.

How about invisible signs of wear and tear? Is it lumpy? Does your mattress lack support? Can you feel springs poking you during the night? If you've answered yes to any of these, it’s time to invest in a new mattress.

At eve, we totally get the importance of the role your mattress plays in promoting better sleep. And so, we offer a wide range of mattresses to suit different sleep positions and preferences.
